Window Cleaning in Calgary

We already clean the hardest glass there is, brand new windows covered in overspray. Yours is easier.

The hardest window cleaning job is a new build, where the glass carries manufacturer stickers, paint overspray, silicone smears, stucco splatter and construction grit that will scratch the surface if it is handled carelessly. That is the work HH Contracting has been doing for builders across Calgary from the start. Regular residential and commercial window cleaning is the same crews and the same standard on considerably easier glass.

We clean windows for houses, condos, offices, retail units and storefronts across Calgary and the surrounding communities, inside and out, including the parts most people mean when they say the windows still look dirty: the tracks, the frames, the sills and the screens. Work is scheduled around Calgary's seasonal window, and commercial storefronts can be run on a recurring cycle.

Why Calgary glass gets dirty the way it does

Window cleaning is fairly universal as a trade, but the soiling here has a local character worth understanding, because it determines when the work is worth booking. Winter road treatment is the main driver. Five months of salt, brine and traction gravel gets thrown up onto ground-floor and street-facing glass, and it does not simply rinse off; salt bonds to glass and leaves a haze that survives an ordinary wash.

Then there is chinook cycling. Repeated freeze-thaw swings pull moisture across the glass surface again and again, and each cycle leaves behind mineral deposits from whatever was dissolved in it. That is the origin of the hard-water spotting that makes windows look permanently cloudy even after cleaning, particularly on south and west elevations that catch the temperature swings hardest.

Both are why the standard Calgary pattern is a proper clean in spring once the salt season has ended, and a second before winter for homes and businesses where appearance matters year-round. Spring is the one that changes how a house looks. Booking it early matters, because everyone wants the same three weeks in May.

One caution worth stating plainly. Mineral deposits that have been left on glass for years can etch into the surface, at which point they are damage rather than dirt and no amount of cleaning will remove them. We will tell you during the quote if we can see that on your glass, rather than clean the windows and let you discover afterwards that the cloudiness is still there.

New construction glass is a different job

If your windows are new, this is not the service you want. Construction glass carries manufacturer stickers and adhesive, paint and stain overspray, silicone and caulk smears, stucco and mortar splatter, and fine abrasive grit sitting on the surface. Cleaning it like ordinary glass drags that grit across the pane and scratches it, and scratched new glass is a warranty conversation with the window supplier that nobody wins quickly.

It needs a different method: careful flooding and lubrication first so nothing is dragged dry, controlled scraping at the correct angle only where the glass tolerates it, solvent work for silicone and adhesive, and awareness of which coated and tempered glass must not be scraped at all. That work is scoped on our post-construction window cleaning page, and it is a service we have run for Calgary builders for years.

The practical rule: if the building or the windows are new, or a renovation has just finished, book the construction version. If the glass has been in place and simply needs cleaning, this is the right page. If you are not sure, describe the situation when you call and we will put you on the correct one, they are priced differently because the work genuinely is different.

Heights, access and what we will not do

Most Calgary residential window cleaning is reachable safely from the ground with water-fed poles or from ladders at moderate height, which covers the great majority of two-storey homes. Our crews are insured and WCB-covered, which matters more on this service than most, because window work is the one where an uninsured contractor falling on your property becomes your problem.

Where a property genuinely requires rope access, swing stage or lift equipment, typically mid-rise and high-rise commercial, that is specialised high-access work with its own certification and equipment requirements, and we will tell you that rather than improvise. We would rather refer a job than send a crew up something they should not be on.

For commercial clients, storefront and entrance glass is usually best run on a recurring cycle rather than booked reactively, because entrance glass is the first thing a customer forms an opinion from and it degrades within days rather than months. That can be folded into a commercial cleaning contract so it is scheduled and invoiced with everything else rather than remembered separately.

What's included

Exterior glass

Outside glass washed and squeegee-finished, clearing the road film, hard-water spotting and winter grit Calgary weather leaves behind.

Interior glass

Inside glass cleaned streak-free, including the interior of patio and sliding doors where handprints concentrate.

Tracks & sills

Sliding tracks, sills and channels vacuumed and wiped clear of the grit and debris that makes windows stick and look dirty regardless of the glass.

Frames & casings

Vinyl, aluminium and clad frames wiped down, including the top edge and the underside of the sill nobody sees until it is clean.

Screens

Screens removed, washed, dried and refitted. Cleaning glass behind a dirty screen makes very little visible difference.

Storefront & entrance glass

Commercial entrance doors, storefront glass and partitions, on a one-time or recurring cycle.

How it works

01

Quote by opening

We count the openings, note height, access and glass condition, and flag any existing etching or damage before we start.

02

Screens & tracks first

Screens come out and get washed, tracks and sills are vacuumed and wiped, so the glass is not the last thing recontaminated.

03

Wash & squeegee

Glass is washed and squeegee-finished with edges detailed, working to avoid streaking in direct sun.

04

Detail & refit

Frames and sills wiped, screens refitted, and a final look from inside and out in daylight to catch anything missed.

Ideal for

  • Spring cleaning after the Calgary salt season
  • Homes going on the market or being photographed
  • Storefronts and offices on a recurring cycle
  • Condos and townhomes with reachable glass
  • Anyone who has never had the tracks and screens done

What it costs

Window cleaning is quoted per opening, adjusted for height, access and whether screens and tracks are included, so you get one fixed number rather than an hourly estimate. Interior and exterior together prices lower than either alone. Exterior work is seasonal in Calgary, book the spring window early.

Questions about window cleaning

How often should windows be cleaned in Calgary?

Most homes do well with a proper clean each spring once the salt season ends, and a second before winter where appearance matters year-round. Storefronts and offices with public-facing entrance glass generally need a recurring cycle instead.

Do you clean tracks and screens too?

Yes, and they are the reason windows still look dirty after the glass is done. Screens are removed, washed and refitted, and tracks and sills are vacuumed and wiped rather than just brushed out.

Can you clean windows in winter?

Interior work runs year-round. Exterior washing is weather-dependent here, so it is generally scheduled spring through fall. We will book the exterior for the right window rather than do it badly in the cold.

My windows look cloudy even after cleaning. Why?

Usually hard-water mineral deposits from years of freeze-thaw cycling. If they have been left long enough they etch into the glass surface, which is damage rather than dirt. We will tell you at the quote if that is what we are seeing.

Do you clean windows on new construction?

Yes, but as a separate service. New glass carries stickers, overspray, silicone and abrasive grit that will scratch the pane if cleaned like ordinary glass. That work is on our post-construction window cleaning page and it is priced differently because the method is different.

Do you do high-rise or rope access work?

No. We cover what can be reached safely from the ground or from ladders at moderate height, which is most residential and low-rise commercial glass. Rope access and swing stage work is a separate specialty and we will say so rather than improvise.
